This was a whirlwind of a weekend, and one of my most exciting weddings to date!
Hayley and Ted approached me almost two years ago, after they were engaged, and asked if I would be willing to fly to California to shoot their wedding. I first met Hayley in college – she lived in my dorm building our Freshman year, and we became friends almost immediately. Fast forward 7 years, and I happily agreed to make the trek across the country to shoot her wedding. It was particularly exciting for me, as it was my first wedding on the West Coast!
I arrived in sunny San Diego on Thursday evening, and was able to spend some time with Hayley, Ted, their family, and friends on Friday at the rehearsal dinner. It was great getting to catch up with them a bit, and talk about the upcoming wedding! Plus, I got to scope out the venue before the big day. Did I mention where it was being held? Hayley and Ted got married at Mt. Woodson Castle – a GORGEOUS, mission style venue with some of the best lighting, charm, and decorations that I have had the pleasure of shooting in.
The day of the wedding arrived, and excitement was in the air. I spent a bit of time in the morning photographing the girls and guys getting ready. One of the coolest things about this wedding was that everyone seemed to come from a different part of the country – there were guests from a number of states (over 10, I think, spanning North, East, South, and West in the US) that were all there to show their support and love to Hayley and Ted.
The ceremony itself was concise, but beautiful. I particularly liked when Hayley quoted a line from the TV show, How I Met Your Mother, in her vows (“and now, I’m going to quote another awesome Ted”). The elegant background of Mt. Woodson created the perfect scene for their special moment. After the ceremony, we snuck away for couples photos and group photos around the back of the Castle, which offered a lush, green golf course as a backdrop.
The reception was full of laughter, stories, dancing, delicious food (did someone say a taco bar!), and even a photobooth for some truly funny shots at the end of the night. Congrats, Hayley and Ted, on your new life together! I hope you guys have many years of happiness and love ahead as a married couple!
